Hey, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What have you been up to over the past year in this big old mess?

Making music, being a parent, working, dancing, chatting with friends, having some fun. Living a life in general.

I’m very interested in how you started your adventure with music, and did you know from the beginning that this is what you wanted to do?

Music has been part of my life since I was a teenager. What most excites me in music is its capability to provoke emotions. Music is a very powerful emotional trigger. So, I can’t live without music. But also, I can’t live from music, I can’t depend on it to live. I am a lucky guy and music is not my main activity and font of revenue. So, music is only pleasure. I started making music as a drummer in the nineties. Rock band called Lemon Candies, a mix of Sonic Youth with Nirvana and Jesus and Mary Chain. After the music software explosion, I began to produce electronic music and that’s where I am now. It’s great to create music from scratch with only a computer and some basic tools.

Congrats on the release of ‘Emanuel / Rave Modernism One’, the EP sounds great. What was the inspiration behind it?

When I started to talk with Jaroska about the release (it’s a Split EP between CITIZEN:KANE and Jaroska), we immediately thought about dance floors and dancing. Underground stuff. So, dark caves with loud speakers were inspirative. Also, wet bodies and drugged faces. Acid House, Industrial and IDM, always present.

What’s your favorite track on the EP and why?

“Emanuel”, both original and remixed by Jaroska, are my favourite. Because both have that industrial acid techno dark feeling that I was looking for for the EP release.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

Making music non stop.

What should we expect from your next releases in terms of style and sound? How different are they going to be compared to your previous works?

I am preparing my third album as CITIZEN:KANE, it will be released on vinyl and it will be inspired by my experience of the jazz-influenced electronic music I heard at a certain time in my life. I want to bring out music that has that legacy, knowing right away that the creative act will always have present, in a natural way, unforeseen results and improbable or even non-existent relationships with that music I heard at a certain time in my life. It’s confusing everybody.

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

Lisboa. Acid house has been very present  in electronic music made for dancefloors, here in Lisbon, I guess. So, that one will always be in my music. And also schizo stuff mixed with emotional and lame vibes. Yeah, I work in opposing fields, I’m a creep, I’m a weirdo. Always asking myself what the hell am I doing here.

If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

In the cave in which “Matrix Reloaded” was shooted.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for 2023?

My new album, “Blow”, will be out until the end of 2023, stay tuned!
