Hi! For those that haven’t heard of you yet, how would you best describe your sound, and who have been your biggest influences so far?

My sound is a fusion of soulful melodies, R&B rhythms, and heartfelt lyrics. Some of my influences are Soul Classic legends like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and universal pop artists Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Bruno Mars. I’ve crafted a style that blends classic soul with modern vibes.

Do you remember what the first song was that made you want to start a career in music?

While I can’t recall the exact first song that ignited my passion for a music career, I distinctly remember growing up being moved by Michael Jackson’s iconic performances and Whitney Houston’s captivating voice. Both have played a significant role in inspiring me to pursue a career in music.

You have just released your new single ‘I Like That’. Can you tell us how that track came about?

Absolutely! “I Like That” came together in an organic and exciting way. During a songwriting session with JRDN a few months ago, we started working on one track, but then we decided to explore a new direction. Before we knew it, a catchy hook was crafted and my verse followed. JRDN then laid down a verse in the recording booth. As the demo developed, the idea of collaboration grew, especially because JRDN and I both hail from Nova Scotia. I was later introduced to Kayo’s music and immediately felt his energy and knew he was the missing piece. Approaching Kayo and having him on board brought the track to another level. The result is a song that merges our musical talents, celebrating life’s simple pleasures and connecting through music. It’s been an exciting journey from concept to collaboration to sharing “I Like That” with the world!

And how would you say it compares to your previous releases?

“I Like That” brings a fresh energy and dynamic than my previous releases. While my earlier work also embodies soulful vibes and meaningful lyrics, this track ventures into a blend of R&B, hip-hop, and pop elements. The collaboration with JRDN and Kayo introduces new layers of creativity and diversity to my sound. It’s a testament to my growth as an artist, showcasing different facets of my musical identity while still staying true to the essence that defines my music.

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

I’m currently based in Toronto, Ontario. The music scene here has influenced my sound by exposing me to a diverse range of genres, cultures, and talents. Toronto’s vibrant music landscape has pushed me to explore and experiment with different styles, allowing me to infuse a variety of elements into my music. The city’s energy and thriving artistic community have played a role in shaping my evolving sound, pushing me to constantly evolve and refine my craft.

What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

One of the most significant challenges of being an artist is navigating the ever-changing landscape of the music industry. From staying relevant in a fast-paced digital era to finding your unique voice amid a sea of talented artists, it’s a constant journey of self-discovery and adaptation. Balancing creative expression with the demands of the industry, while also facing personal and professional obstacles, requires resilience and a strong sense of purpose. Despite these challenges, the rewards of connecting with audiences through music make the journey incredibly fulfilling.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given as a musician?

The best advice I’ve received as a musician is to stay true to myself and my artistic vision. Embracing authenticity and creating music that resonates with my own emotions and experiences allows me to connect more deeply with my audience. It’s essential to focus on my unique strengths and not be swayed by trends or external pressures. This advice has encouraged me to craft music that’s genuine and meaningful, fostering a genuine connection with listeners who appreciate my authentic expression.

What’s next for you? Is there more music or any live shows on the way?

Absolutely, there’s a lot to look forward to! I’ll be continuing to share more music from my upcoming album, set to be released later this year. This collection of songs is a reflection of my artistic evolution and the creative journey I’ve embarked on. As for live shows, I’m excited to connect with audiences through performances and bring the energy of my music to the stage. Stay tuned for updates on new releases, shows, and all the exciting things in store on this musical journey!
