Hey, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What have you been up to over the past year in this big old mess?

Super nice to chat to you too!!

I’ve actually been studying sound engineering and visual art while writing PhD applications. It was quite a hustle to make the last two albums and I’ve taken a bit of a break this year to compose and enjoy music at my leisure.

I’m very interested in how you started your adventure with music, and did you know from the beginning that this is what you wanted to do?

I think I always wanted to play music and have that in my life but I didn’t realise I could do it as a job until much later.  I went to a Steiner school and everyone had to play an instrument and I immediately fell in love with it! In year 10 we had a year long project and I made an electric violin, then started messing around with effects pedals and contemporary music.

Congrats on the release of ‘Mr. Wizard’, the album sounds great. What was the inspiration behind it?

The inspiration was really ‘keep it together !’ during the pandemic lockdowns. I needed something to do and this time gave me an opportunity to compose music I wanted to hear while I finished my degree. I never really composed before and I found out that I love it. I struggled to find the type of sound I wanted to play and in a way, this gave me an opportunity to make my own.

What’s your favorite track on the album and why?

Ooooooh that’s a tough one! I’d say it’s a toss up between Mr. Wizard, Distance and Mala Suerte. I like the distortion, layers and rhythmic complexity of distance but Mala Suerte was the only track recorded in a studio with a real band. It was during my degree with other music students and we managed to get together between the lockdowns and it was a really fun time! And a nice break from the isolation. Mr. Wizard is the funnest to play on my violin and I had a great time composing it!

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

I’m concentrating pretty hard on the social media and streaming platforms, I also have vinyl records for sale for those keen to support me financially!! I am also practicing hard to keep my chops up, but that goes without saying.

What should we expect from your next releases in terms of style and sound?

How different are they going to be compared to your previous works?

Next album is it the works but it’s developing slowly. It’s more like Mr. Wizard than Myriad but different again. It’s kind of hard to describe and I’ll have to let you know when it’s finished!

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

Melbourne, Australia. The live music scene of Melbourne is absolutely amazing. Any night of the week there will be something cool going on somewhere! It’s very welcoming and inspiring and there seems to be a strong Aussie style developing.

If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

I’ve always wanted to play on a stage with flames! In Melbourne my faves are The Forum, Festival Hall and The Bowl. (Sydney Myer music bowl) Although I’ve found that the attitude of the listeners matters more than where you play sometimes.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for the rest of 2023?

I am mainly composing and working with other musicians with the aim of finishing a new album. I’m not sure if it will be out this year yet, so stay tuned!
