Hey, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What have you been up to over the past year in this big old mess?

Hi, so great to chat with you too! Thank you for having me.

This past year I started releasing my music, and it has been such an exciting part of my life. I have been writing a lot more, and I’ve been focusing on getting back into the arts and making time for acting and making music. Not only did I end up releasing my debut single last year, but I also produced a production of Spring Awakening, which was my first off-broadway production in NYC, and I played the lead role of Wendla, I was living my dream. It’s nice to get a chance to be an artist again.

I’m very interested in how you started your adventure with music, and did you know from the beginning that this is what you wanted to do?

Yes, since I was little I really loved singing and I would watch American Idol every week, one of my first dreams was to be the next american idol and I remember just counting down the years until I was old enough to audition. I always wanted to know how it would feel to be a pop star, for Christmas one year I even asked my parents for a wireless microphone so I could pretend to have my own concerts at home. I started writing songs on my parent’s piano and they were very corny, and I even did a couple performing gigs in my hometown where I didn’t perform my own music but I got to perform songs I loved. I would say it wasn’t until 2019 where I started writing music consistently and got my first guitar and I taught myself by ear and I’ve been playing ever since. I’ve always wanted to release an album or EP and I just never thought it would be possible for me so this is very exciting to be releasing.

Congrats on the release of ‘maybe i’ll feel better’, the EP sounds great. What was the inspiration behind it?

Thank you so much! I am really proud of it. I’ve written a lot of sad songs and songs about breakups and I realized I didn’t want that to be the EP’s focus. I have Anxiety and Depression, and I wrote some songs this year where I realized I’ve never been this vulnerable before in my lyrics about how I struggle with self love and my mental health, and there is always this idea that if you are struggling with those things you aren’t ready for a relationship, and past relationships where you were mistreated can make it hard to be in a relationship again and triggers can occur. Throughout this EP I take you through the highs and the lows of relationships, as well as reflecting back on myself.

What’s your favorite track on the EP and why?

That’s such a hard question because every song is so special and I definitely have more than one favorite haha.

My song “crash” is really unique to me and is one of my favorite chord progressions I have ever written. It’s a song for everyone who’s ever felt anxious in a relationship, and I used the symbolism of a car crash as the ending of the relationship. My favorite lyric in this song is “don’t drive too fast i’ve always been the passenger”, which means I’ve never been the one in control in relationships, i’m usually with controlling people, and it’s also a great lyric because i’ve always been the passenger, it’s true i never got my driver’s license. But yeah this track is really special. I cried on the street when my producer first sent me the production.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

I am continuing to write more music and plan for my next releases, and staying authentic,I also would love to collaborate with more people and feature them in my songs, or even pass one of my songs on to someone else.

What should we expect from your next releases in terms of style and sound? How different are they going to be compared to your previous works?

Maybe some more stripped down stuff, I have been writing a lot of nostalgic songs recently. I would love to also release a rock song one day because that is also a style I enjoy. I try to change my sound slightly with each new project I put out, I like to have variety and don’t want all of my music to always sound the same. But I will say expect some more sad songs. I write those a lot.

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

I am based in Brooklyn, NY, I am always inspired when I go to concerts and I see my favorite artists play. I also think this city gives me so much to write about.

If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

Hmmm, I would love to perform at Brooklyn Steel or Bowery Ballroom in NYC, I love intimate spaces, have seen shows there and have always thought it looks like a cool space to perform. I think an arena space may be a little overwhelming so I’d like to start there.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for the rest of 2022?

I’m looking into booking shows for next year which will be my first time performing my songs in front of an audience so keep a lookout for that, and as far as the rest of this year goes, maybe a christmas song.
