Hey, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What have you been up to over the past year in this big old mess?

Hello, thanks so much for taking the time to chat with me. Over the last few years has honestly been a bit of a whirlwind! In 2020, just before the pandemic, I had just finished up my bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre. I decided I wanted to pursue songwriting and actually got into my dream school, and I moved to continue studying in September 2020. After that, I moved to Oslo with a clear image of myself as an artist and my music and have been here since, working on my project.

I’m very interested in how you started your adventure with music, and did you know from the beginning that this is what you wanted to do?

I think part of me has known I wanted to do music since I can remember. I grew up listening to music with my dad, and from the age of ten I started writing myself, so it’s always been a huge part of my life. Because I studied Musical Theatre, I was more interested in that side of things but I always came back to making my music. That’s always been something I knew I needed to do.

Congrats on your new release, ‘Dead Dead Dead’. Can you give us some insight into it?

Thank you so much! I’m incredibly proud and happy that it’s finally out. Dead Dead Dead has been in the making for over a year now and to be able to put it out into the world is such a special feeling. It’s my very first release and I learned so much along the way.

I actually started writing Dead Dead Dead because I felt like at that point in my life, the old version of me was gone and something new was being created, but I wasn’t sure what it was yet. I’m also really interested in the afterlife and the way people prepare bodies for funerals,so I did a lot of research on that, and that gave me inspiration to write the song.

Although it has a pretty macabre name, Dead Dead Dead to me is a song about rebirth. About how from rot comes growth and how all endings are beginnings. It’s the symbol of a new era to me.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

Keep making music! Even though I feel like I have a pretty solid idea of the kind of music I want to make, it’s always really fun to experiment and to keep making things. I’m far from finished with my project and I still have so many songs I want to write and things I want to do with them. I also love meeting new people who can give me more of an insight to the way they view my project.

What should we be expecting from your next releases in terms of style and sound? How different are they going to be compared to your previous works?

I think you can definitely expect something weird and death-y like Dead Dead Dead for the next one! Dead Dead Dead has sort of pioneered the sound for my EP, so the rest of the songs will be in the same genre, but I’m also a huge fan of writing acoustically, so you can expect some of those songs in the near future as well. But definitely lots of cool death stuff is coming 🙂

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

I’m currently living in Oslo! The music scene here has been really inspiring, and even though I’ve only lived here a year I’ve met so many amazing people who make me want to keep making music. The scene for independent artists here is also super supportive and I’m really lucky to have so many people around me who care about my music and want to jump on the project.

I just went to By:Larm, which is a music festival for up and coming artists that takes place once a year in Oslo and that’s one thing I would definitely recommend. You meet so many new people and get to listen to great music by so many different artists.

I also am super inspired by the London music scene, because London has always been a second home to me. The reason I love it there so much is because you can be whoever you want to be, and make whatever you want to make and somebody will love it. So that’s definitely a place that inspired my sound hugely.

If you could perform at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

Honestly, I haven’t really thought about this! But I would love to perform in a church that’s been turned into a venue.I think the acoustics would be amazing and it fits the vibe of my music so well. So yes, I hope to be doing that at some point. Maybe I’ll just tour churches.

Can we expect a new EP or an album from you in the near future?

I am currently working on my EP but have no release plans just yet, however, I do have more music coming out really soon as i continue to work on the EP.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned over the rest of 2022?

The rest of 2022 has some very exciting releases and visual stuff coming up that I’ll be announcing really soon! I’m super excited for more music to be out, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it soon. You can follow me on social media, @tullemusic everywhere, for updates. Thanks so much for this interview!
