Billy Hubbard is an Americana singer/songwriter hailing from Tennessee. In addition to his musical pursuits, he has an extensive background in the music industry. Previously, he held the position of Regional Director of A&R for the esteemed Regenerate Music Company, which boasts Grammy accolades. Furthermore, Hubbard is the co-host and producer of the widely acclaimed podcast My BackStage Pass, where he has had the privilege of interviewing renowned artists like Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, the musical comedian Ray Stevens, Noel Stookey (known as “Paul”) of Peter, Paul and Mary, as well as Grammy-winning musicians including Pam Tillis, Charlie McCoy, Melanie Safka and other influential figures within the music industry. Adding to his repertoire, Hubbard is also the co-founder, venue developer and booking manager of the highly regarded establishment called The Station, situated in East TN. Additionally, his YouTube channel showcases emerging talents and captivating live performances, garnering an impressive viewership of over three million.

The self-titled album Billy Hubbard opens with “Castin’ away My Blues” and the first thing I noticed was the beautiful warmth. I don’t think the mix could be any better.  I thought Hubbard’s vocals were earnest and honest sounding with no pretense. What a fantastic song to open up the album.

“Civil War Letter” made me move my head along with the music. The song has so much melancholy but provided solace in the most comforting of ways. It feels like home. Familiar and clear. The song is also jam packed with nostalgia.

“Lonesome When I’m With You” is next and man this song hit me in my heart as well. I loved the change in tempo and mood throughout this song. The slightly spaghetti western feel was really well done and I thought the female vocalist on the song sounded great.

“Got To Be Real” would sound great in a dive bar while “For The Moment” is a meditation on dealing with pain in different ways including turning to the bottle as well as reflection on a lost love. The energy ramps back up on “Mighty Low,”“Take Me Back” and “When I Look Into Your Eyes” and continues to make an accessible yet dynamic sound. “I Think of You” felt like a single to me. Very catchy and the hook was memorable. Last up is “Goodbye Waltz” and it  hits all the right marks for an ending.

The exceptional production combined with top tier songwriting makes this a great album. If you listen, Hubbard will take you on a journey.
