Hi! So that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce Mecha Mecha

W: I’m Walter (Singer, bass, piano and guitar),
I: and I’m Isaac Vincent (violin, vocals, bass), our third guy is Walter’s brother Angelo (Drums and singing, samples).

W: We do a lot of switching around to keep a 3 piece rock band interesting, and all three of us sing (we refuse to use harmonies on backing tracks, a trend that’s really taken off in many prog rock scenes), and whilst stealing Royal Blood’s “lead bass” formula with Violin replacing a lead guitar.

You recently released your latest single ‘My Hero The Homewrecker’ and it’s brilliant. For anyone who’s yet to hear it, how would you describe the track?

W: It’s our cover track, emblematic of our sound. Lead violin in the intro, bass playing all the heavy parts (no guitars!), EDM inspired bridge with Ange’s hybrid drum kit, uplifting with harmonies and simple riffs

Where did you record it?

I: We tried something new and did a track for a heavier sound with Kalen Austin at his studio in Brisbane.

Your music interweaves so many different styles and sounds. If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

W: Tim Henson, the guy makes everyone viral and I would love to make like a drum and bass or trap beat track for him to solo over.

What’s been your favorite musical experience to date?

I: Playing in New Caledonia for a small festival in Noumea…Walter had to learn a decent amount of French just for us to get around.

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

I: The band is based in Brisbane Australia, but I live 2 hours away in a town called Lismore.

W: Other band’s and our peers have sort of shaped our business model, in the sense that we’d learn who to work with on production and film clips by watching what our peers do. To be honest though, Australia’s got a pretty bad cultural case of tall poppy syndrome, which means our scene is basically dominated by pop punk, so I can’t say I’m super influenced by the bands around us, it’s not that I don’t listen to them and enjoy them, but I’ve always been more influenced by music abroad. Seemingly French artists at the moment like Igorrr, Gojira, Chrstine and the Queens.

Can you write what was the best performance in your career? How do you remember it?

I: Probably our single launch at the Black Bear lodge, they weren’t expecting us to sell so many tickets and had to call extra security on the night.

W: I didn’t enjoy that one too much because I was really sick, but it was still a great show.

Can we expect a new EP or an album from you in the near future?

I: Walter is always churning out demos but it’s been a very hectic time for artists on our side of the country in the last few years with bushfires, covid, major flooding, lockdowns etc.

W: We’re hoping to get another single out by the end of the year though.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for the rest of 2023?

W: We just got back from playing overseas in Noumea, New Caledonia, to a personal tragedy. Our step-father and in this case festival tour manager suddenly passed away with basically zero warning. He was French-Belg, and helped translate our contract and all the practical arrangements for performing in a French speaking country, and he died the day we left, we only found out upon return. So it’s been a rough few weeks, but we’re gathering our bearings and kicking back off again to release another track. Rest in Peace, Jean-Marc Englebert, and thank you.
