Hi! So that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce So Honey

So Honey is a collaboration between Asher Toback & Chayse Cope based in Portland, OR & Santa Cruz, CA.

Congrats on the release of ‘Hi, it’s Mom’, the album sounds great. What was the inspiration behind it?

The concept of the album is to explore all the different feelings and experiences that voicemails have on us. Voicemails are something we all receive and treat very casually, but this album tries to elevate them and treat them more like mini-documentary pieces, snapshots into each person’s life who left it.

What’s your favorite track on the album and why?

It’s hard to choose, but I think I would have to land on Tributaries as it has a bunch of voicemails from my family all being sweet in their own ways.

Where did you record it?

We recorded this album at Bocce Recording Co. which is near Portland, Oregon.

Your music interweaves so many different styles and sounds. If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

It would have to be Nick Zammuto from The Books. They’re a massive inspiration and it would be wild to chat with him on his process.

What’s been your favorite musical experience to date?

All the different types of writing processes you get into when you collaborate with people. Everyone has their own working style and voice, and it’s a lot of fun to try to find the best way to mesh.

Where are you based? Can you tell us how the music scene there has inspired your sound at all?

We wrote music when we both lived in Portland, Oregon. The music scene is how we actually met, both playing at an open mic one night. So, I suppose it had the greatest influence on our styles because it’s how we came in contact.

Can you write what was the best performance in your career? How do you remember it?

We’ve both played lots of shows with other bands, but haven’t done one together due to the COVID pandemic getting in the way. We did play sets one after another at a bar once, and it was cool to promote it at the same time and support each other during the show.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs, and what have you got planned for 2023?

We’re both really excited about this album and are trying to get it out there as much as possible. Look out for future releases and singles on our Instagram!
